Mindful May – Day 15

Art is such a wonderful way of experiencing mindfulness, expressing yourself in the moment. Although I am not an artist and my drawings resemble those of a four-year-old, I have always enjoyed colouring in. Whoever would have thought it would have become so big though? There are so many adult colouring-in books that claim to help you unwind and destress after a long day. Like any of the strategies I am introducing, what works for one may not work for another. For the perfectionists amongst us, mindful colouring would only add to the stress, as they strive to ensure the colours stay between the lines. I’m sure you know of people, be it kids or adults who make one tiny mistake and have to destroy the entire thing!

Just enjoy, be in the moment, create your masterpiece without judgement; use your senses – see the colours, listen to the sound of the pen meeting the paper, smell the ink, feel the sensation in your body as you colour.

Life is your canvas – colour it mindfully! Use the whole box of crayons!
